CBD Lotion Guide from Cornbread Hemp

With all the rage about CBD oils and CBD capsules, have you ever considered a CBD cream?

CBD lotion is a topical hemp oil preparation, it can also be called “CBD cream.” Lotions and creams made with CBD are thought to be more effective CBD hemp oil products than salves. Short for “cannabidiol,” CBD is one of 150 cannabinoids of the cannabis plant, widely held to have potential health benefits.

CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS), a biological system responsible for maintaining homeostasis in the human body. Through the ECS, CBD can influence physiological functions throughout the body. Although taking CBD orally is the most common method, people also use topicals made from CBD hemp oil.

The Science Behind CBD Topicals

The skin is the largest organ in the body. And when the skin is out of homeostasis, it can result in inflammation and a variety of skin conditions. Scientists have been studying the skin and the ECS as far back as 2009. That year, a joint team of American and Hungarian researchers concluded that “the main physiological function of the cutaneous ECS is to constitutively control the proper and well-balanced proliferation, differentiation, and survival, as well as immune competence and/or tolerance, of skin cells.”

These researchers determined that main function of the skin-based ECS appears to be the management of skin cells, to ensure their proliferation, differentiation and survival. When this delicate balance is disrupted, skin diseases can develop. These conditions include acne, allergic dermatitis, psoriasis, hair growth disorders, and more.

From this study from 2009, the researchers concluded that hemp oil, when applied topically could provide “therapeutic gain.”

More recently, a Canadian drug company received an orphan drug designation from the US FDA for a topical cannabinoid preparation. The drug company designed this FDA-approved lotion to treat Epidermolysis bullosa, a rare genetic disease that causes skin to become blistered and fragile. Clinical trials in humans for this new drug should begin soon.

No other brand makes CBD topical lotion like Cornbread Hemp.

Can CBD Lotion Get Me High?

No. You can’t get high from CBD topicals. Cornbread Hemp CBD topicals come from the hemp plant, which has a very low THC level of not more than 0.3 percent. Hemp oil does not get you high.

Can CBD Topicals Make Me Fail a Drug Test?

CBD topicals do not typically enter the bloodstream. Therefore, even though Cornbread Hemp’s CBD topicals contain a legal dose of THC under federal law, there is little risk that our full spectrum CBD lotion would cause a positive result on a drug test.

However, “little risk” is not “no risk.” Cornbread Hemp thinks all drug tests for THC are immoral and unethical, and that systematic THC drug testing leads to a less healthy population. But we aren’t your employer.

If you work for a company with a strict THC testing policy, please check with your HR department about taking full spectrum hemp oil. And when you talk to them, get approval to use CBD. We cannot guarantee that users of our products will never test positive for a drug test. So, get that approval from HR in writing.

CBD Lotion, CBD Cream, & CBD Salves

For the sake of this article, CBD lotion and CBD cream are essentially the same thing. Both lotions and creams made from hemp oil are water-based topical preparations meant to penetrate and moisturize the skin effectively.

CBD salves use an oil-based preparation with ingredients like beeswax, which makes them unfriendly to our vegan friends. The oily nature of CBD salves also leaves a greasy residue, which is unpleasant and unnecessary to getting the full benefits of topically applied CBD. They may also add potentially irritating ingredients like lavender oil or frankincense to distract from the smell of their product.

Cornbread Hemp uses a paraben-free lotion base that is mostly MCT coconut oil. Out of all the different sources of essential fatty acids, MCT (medium chain triglycerides) from coconut oil is considered to be one of the best for skin care products because of its bioavailablity.

We don’t use heavy emulsifiers like cocoa butter, shea butter, or jojoba oil because we want to provide a light oil that absorbs fast and won’t sit on top of the skin. The MCT coconut oil in our CBD body lotion is perfect for absorbing quickly into the skin without leaving behind any residue.

CBD topicals can be beneficial for the right people. If you are interested in skincare, then a moisturizing CBD body lotion might be ideal for you.

CBD Cream Dosage

Customers often ask us, “How much CBD lotion should I use?” With our ingestible CBD products, the answer would depend on a person’s body weight, metabolism, and genetics. For CBD body lotions, the answer is a bit more simple.

CBD cream should be use conservatively on target areas as many times a day as necessary. A little goes a long way. The main limiting factor in CBD body lotion dosage is the cost. Because CBD topicals aren’t cheap, most people use it sparingly as needed. But if the cost doesn’t bother you, go ahead and slather it on.

Start by applying a small amount of CBD lotion to your problem areas, and give it an hour to see how you feel. These are most common areas where people apply CBD lotions:

  • Hands
  • Elbows, knees, and joints
  • Soles of the feet and heels
  • Face and temples
  • Neck and shoulders
  • Lower back

A small dollop can be quite effective. No need to go overboard.

Different Types of CBD Cream

At Cornbread Hemp, we see two types of customers looking for CBD body lotions: those with skin issues, and those with discomfort in their joints or muscles.

Topical CBD that targets skin inflammation should be mild and gentle so as to not further irritate the inflamed areas. Also, many people have recently turned to CBD topicals to help with their very dry hands as a result of excessive hand washing in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

For people looking for CBD products to fight joint and muscle discomfort, the lotion needs to be a little stronger. And it helps to have an added ingredient like menthol, or peppermint oil, to help the CBD penetrate deeper into the skin.

Cornbread Hemp’s Full Spectrum CBD Lotion

At Cornbread Hemp, we start with a full spectrum CBD distillate that contains a legal dose of THC, which is not more than 0.3 percent. Most CBD lotions and creams are made from CBD isolate, which studies have shown is not as effective as full spectrum CBD hemp oil. Always look for a full spectrum CBD lotion like ours at Cornbread Hemp.

Second, we use a premium lotion that is paraben-free. Many cosmetics use parabens as a preservative in preparations like lotions, but parabens can inhibit proper hormone function. Studies in humans and animals link parabens to decreased fertility, skin irritation, and possibly breast cancer. That’s why our lotions are always paraben-free.

And third, instead of essential oils we add a propriety terpene blend of a landrace sativa strain that is high in terpinolene. In addition to cannabis, terpinolene can be found naturally in lilacs, rosemary, pine trees, and tea tree oil. That floral-piney aroma is now synonymous with Cornbread Hemp’s CBD lotions.

200mg CBD Lotion for Dry Skin

Made with a luxury paraben-free lotion infused with our full spectrum CBD distillate, our 200 mg CBD lotion is the best CBD cream available to support healthy skin.

Cornbread Hemp’s CBD topical for skin absorbs easily and doesn’t leave an oily residue like a CBD salve. Our CBD cream has a piney-floral aroma from its terpene profile, which contributes to our lotion’s wellness properties.

Our 200 mg CBD cream is perfect for dry hands from excessive hand washing.

500mg CBD Lotion for Aches & Pains

We designed our 500 mg CBD lotion with menthol for maximum comfort, especially for joint and muscle issues. We use our same premium coconut oil based paraben-free body lotion, and full spectrum CBD distillate, blended with menthol to create our most potent topical CBD product.

Infused with full spectrum CBD oil from Kentucky hemp, our customers enjoy its quick absorption and that it has no leftover greasy residue. Our proprietary botanical blend smells great when applied to the skin. Ideal for athletes and those who regularly experience muscle soreness or joint pain.

Cornbread Hemp CBD creams have a terpene profile high in terpinolene.

Which CBD Cream is Best for Me?

As with any topical CBD, choosing the best one for you is a matter of personal choice. There are a lot of options in the CBD topical market, so you need to shop around to find which one works for you. Before purchasing any CBD product, make sure to always look for a third party lab test that covers pesticides, microbials, heavy metals, and other potentially harmful contaminants. At Cornbread Hemp, we make our library of lab certificates available on every single product we have ever made, and we even teach you how to read a COA. This ensures that you won’t end up using a product that could damage your health, or one that doesn’t contain any actual CBD.

When you see a product that catches your eye, read the reviews. With over 350 of them, our verified customer reviews speak for themselves.
