What is the history of adaptogens in drinks?

Herbs like ginseng, holy basil and schisandra, have been brewed into teas and tonics for centuries in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic practices. The term "adaptogen" was coined by Soviet scientist Nikolai Lazarev in 1947. Ready-to-drink adaptogen drinks, such as sodas and spritzes, emerged in the late 2010s with the rise of non-alcoholic beverages.
