Are cannabis edibles bad for your liver?
Cannabis edibles contain cannabinoids like THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive compound in cannabis. While the average healthy adult shouldn’t experience liver issues from occasionally consuming edibles, there may be a risk for those with pre-existing liver conditions and people who qualify as heavy consumers. That’s because of first-pass metabolism, which describes the processing of cannabinoids in the liver. People with liver conditions are more likely to process cannabinoids more slowly, which could put stress on the liver. Check with your doctor first.
